Above you can see me looking impossibly studious at the bi-monthly fashion illustration course run by artist Clara Gomez in the wonderful surroundings of Paper Dress Vintage.
The classes cater for artists of all levels and feature a live model styled by Clara in a number of outfits throughout the course of the evening. After learning some of the basics about fashion illustration she expertly guides you through a series of exercises such as drawing the model with a continuous line, learning about negative space and even drawing without taking your eyes off the model.
I’m embarrassed to admit that the last time I did anything like this was way back on my foundation year. Of course everyone is well versed on the value of drawing from life but I can’t begin to explain to you how important these exercises are in helping an artist such as myself to break down some of the needless neurotic habits that build up over the years.
The whole thing is very informal and a lot of fun and I would strongly recommend it to anyone with a passion for art and fashion. The people at Paper Dress are all lovely and Clara is chock full of positive energy. The class is a steal at £8; all materials are provided for you, although you’re welcome to bring your own, and there are half price cocktails to lubricate the creative process.
